The idea for this project arose when the catering industry had to go into lockdown for the second time due to the Corona pandemic on October 17, 2020
I understood that this would be very drastic for these entrepreneurs. There was also a lot of disbelief and misunderstanding: "Why again?" and “Why us?”. All the more because a lot had been invested in, among other things, protective equipment, smaller tables ...
Entrepreneurs want to move forward, forge plans and satisfy customers… all of that was suddenly nipped in the bud. Most of them had a financial hangover from the first lock-down.
I sympathized with them, wanted to give them a voice and a face. A portrait in which they could show their grievances on the one hand, and their pride and passion on the other. To keep it feasible, regional and close to myself, I chose the Aarschotse Horeca.
Several befriended entrepreneurs kicked off and the photos were shared on social media. The portraits were incredibly well received and #horecaah soon became something that locals looked forward to every day.
I also want to be an entrepreneur, be busy. Creativity is my salvation. You can see that in many other entrepreneurs. They keep themselves straight by being inventive, creative and innovative. That is why I am very grateful that I was able to portray these entrepreneurs.
